Frequently Asked Questions
Can I cancel?
Yes, and it's free. You don't pay anything until the day. If your plans change, please let us know by 7 pm the day before, through the link in your confirmation or by WhatsApp.
How do I reserve a tour?
Use the Reserve button on any tour page. You choose a date and leave your name and contact.
Do I need to pay to reserve?
No. Reserving online is free, with no deposit and no card details. Tours are paid in cash on the day.
Which days do the tours run?
The countryside bicycle tour runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:00 am. The walking tour runs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 5:00 pm. Salt work stops during the rains and usually restarts in November–December. Dates are not confirmed yet. Message Jason to hear when dates open.
Can I book a private tour?
The guides we recommend, Mr. Sa and Mr. Sana, run private tours. Our own private tours are sometimes possible outside high season if you give plenty of notice, but not in high season, when our guides are busy with the scheduled tours. Message us on WhatsApp to ask.
Do you offer group discounts?
Our prices are per person, and the same for every guest. If you are organising a group of 10 or more, such as a travel agent, school or club, we can arrange a group rate.
Where does the walking tour start?
At Monkey Republic Hostel in Kampot, at 5:00 pm. Please arrive about ten minutes early.
Is the walking tour free?
The tour is free. If you enjoy it, tip whatever you feel it was worth.
How long is the walking tour?
About 90 minutes. You reach the river in time for sunset and walk along the riverfront, then head back to the hostel.
Where do we meet?
In old town, Kampot. Reserve online and we’ll send you the exact meeting point.
Can I cancel?
Yes, and it's free. You don't pay anything until the day. If your plans change, please let us know by 7 pm the day before, through the link in your confirmation or by WhatsApp.
What should I wear and bring?
There's no strict dress code, but the sun can be very strong, especially in the hot season. Wear lightweight, breathable clothes that cover your skin, and bring a sun hat, sunscreen and mosquito spray. In rural villages, skin-tight activewear can feel out of place. We take care of everything else.
Can you cater for dietary needs?
Lunch is included with the full-day option only. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, nut-free, and most other dietary needs. Just let us know when you book so we can plan the lunch menu in advance.
Can children join?
We have smaller bicycles suitable for children 130 cm (about 4'3") and taller. As we have a limited number of these, please tell us how many children are in your group when booking. Unfortunately we don't have baby seats or bicycles for smaller children.
What if I'm not comfortable on a bicycle?
You can follow the tour in a tuk-tuk for $15 per tuk-tuk on the half-day tour or $20 on the full-day tour, on top of the tour price. A tuk-tuk carries up to four people and follows your chosen tour. Lunch is included with the full-day option only.
What happens if it rains?
The tour can still run in rain, and the choice is yours. If you decide not to go because of rain, you pay nothing.
How far and how fast do we ride?
Both options depart at 9:00 am. The half-day tour returns around 1:00 pm, while the full-day tour returns between 4:30 and 5:30 pm. The half-day route is about 15 km with roughly 2 hours of actual cycling; the full day is about 20 km with roughly 3 hours. Both follow flat countryside roads at a relaxed pace with frequent stops. There are no hills, and the ride suits almost all fitness levels.
How long is the tour?
About 4 hours, starting at 8:00 am with hotel pickup and finishing around 12:00 pm.
When does the tour run?
Salt work stops during the rains and usually restarts in November–December. The tour returns when the workers resume and community visits are arranged; dates are not confirmed yet. Message Jason to hear when dates open.
Will the tour happen if it rains?
Since the workers are unable to work after it rains, we sometimes have to cancel the tour when the weather is poor. We will always let you know as early as possible.
Is photography allowed?
In the salt fields, photography is fine. In the village, please ask before taking photos of people. At the school, no photography please.
Where does the donation go?
20% of our profits is donated to the Chumkriel Language School.
